IMPORTANCE
OF TRAINING OF TILERS-
The Ceramics tile Industry has undergone an
unprecedented growth during the last one decade & expected to maintain a
reasonably good growth rate in the near
future.
Housing projects are increasingly switching over to
Ceramic Tiles moving away from the traditional use of mosaic , granite or
marble. Tiles are now become most preferred surface finishing application in
every Housing Project be it Residential/Commercial/Institutional. With the
proliferation of design & combinations, tile laying has become a very
skilled & specialized job. There is a dearth of good tile layers in the
country. Today the end-user whether, a Customer, Retailer, Builder, Architects
face lot of odds in defect free laying of tiles.
Though each of the four stages of buying a tile i.e. Conceptualization,
Selection, Sourcing & Laying requires great amount of effort, the most
difficult and disturbing stage is the application or laying of tiles. That is
the only thing which is beyond the control of the consumer.
The tile laying sector is not organized and the tilers
are not formally trained in our country.
This makes the consumer wary of dealing with the tile laying activities. There is high growth rate in the
construction industry in the last decade. This has created a shortage of
various construction related skill Manpower. In India many homeowners are
interested to renovate or extend their homes. Tiling is a cost effective way of giving house –especially the kitchen ,bathroom and
outside façade area –afresh new look. In
spite of the fact that India produces world class Tiles in terms of Technical
Parameters but when it comes to laying of tiles our Tilers are abysmally ill
trained & non competent leading to poor quality of laying, shabby finish,
lot of wastage of material & time.

OF THE TRAINING OF TILERS- Training
of Tilers is vital to overcome the shortcomings being faced by the Tilers
fraternity. Which can be summarized as under-

BRIEF-
TILE MASTER IS AN INITIATIVE
STARTED BY SOMANY TILES AS A CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ( C.S.R) WITH THE
PURPOSE OF Enhancing Tile Laying skills
of Masons through Training of Masons on Tile Laying in totality enabling them
to improve their skills & productivity and in turn their livelihood. The
other important & strategic purpose was to
contribute in the growth of Tile Industry by way of creating pool of
experts Masons so that world class tiles
being produced in India should be laid
perfectly in finish & aesthetics
ensuring satisfied customer having high level of preference for Tiles in
future.
The Training of Masons is organized through A
School to allow participants(Tilers) to
achieve & develop the professional skills necessary to perform the various
tasks of tile laying with the desired skill, knowledge ,attitude & safety required. Two Schools are established at plants . One at Kassar , Haryana & second in Kadi,Gujarat. Also Localised training of Masons started at Construction Sites for Developers/Builders/Government
establishments.
Considering the practical nature of the course,70%
of the course hours is dedicated to
practical hands-on training & practice of using the tools. The course allows
the participants to achieve &
develop the professional skills necessary to perform the various task of tile
laying with the desired skill, safety required. Demonstrative method is used
for use of most advanced tools sourced from
world over. Most advanced ergonomically designed tools are used in the
school for tile laying operation. The use of these tools enhances the productivity & quality of
the output. The tools are designed to
meet the needs of the professional
tilers. A set of tools consisting of 33 items are made available to the tilers at the end
of the training program at a highly subsidized
price.
The Advantage of Tilers who get training in
Tile Master is that it Increases the
productivity by 10 to 20% & reduces rejection to almost zero which led to better earning at the end of the
day. Also , the better quality of work led to better image of the Tilers &
thus credibility which helps in getting more jobs. A trained Tiler from Somany
easily gets premium of around 20 to 30% compared to the non trained tillers.

wastage in terms of chipping & breaking of tiles.
2. Drill Machine ensures proper Hole without
breaking the tile & is faster by 90%.
3. Rubber Trowel ensures excellent Grouting

New Meaning of Architecture -Modern Sustainability
The need of the hour is Sustainable Architecture. “The Contemporary of the Sustainable” is not only most appropriate but also relevant considering the fact that the manner in which buildings are now being designed and cities being built, have emerged as major consumers of energy and resources besides generators of large waste which are impacting the local and global sustainability to a large extent. In the given context, population, poverty and pollution have emerged as major threat to human sustainability which needs to be tackled on priority by all professionals, administrators and stakeholders. Holding this conference is no doubt, a small but valuable step to improve our ecology and environment besides ensuring quality of life to all human beings to lead a dignified life.
SUSTAINABILITY
The word
“SUSTAIN” means to thrive under a given set of conditions, to endure. The term
sustainability Implies to the state where existence occurs in a set conditions.
This term is extensively being used today in context of architecture.
Sustainability in architecture may be a new term but the concept beneath it is
ages old. From the pages of the past, we can trace the footprints of
sustainable building culture. Sustainability in architecture is nothing else
but building in such a fashion that the natural environment is not disturbed
and is conditioned to derive more benefit to the building, instead of being
harmed by the latter. In short, it’s about maintaining the green cover on the
surface of the earth in addition to architectural development.
Architect’s
Role: - Architects are the modern wizards, creating masterpieces in the shape
of new buildings which are beyond imagination. This era is, indeed, a dream
come true for the designers, where they can breathe free and erect edifices
which match the economic suitability and the lifestyles of the clients.
Moreover, the architectural revolution has also endowed the architects and
builders with the power of influencing the lifestyles of people as a whole.
The
chemical equation from which an architecture emerges–the array of circumstances
and events which prompts a building project, and entrains workers, energies,
talents and skills into itself and, finally, bears the completed building out
of itself is not always self-evident. In fact, most buildings are the mute
bearers of a hidden narrative. Like any collective activity, the creation of
architecture embraces a complexity of interacting factors. A building is the
product of multifarious influences, and
individual ways of seeing and
ways of knowing. Seen in this way, it can be considered as a built memory: an
artifact which has materialized out of sometimes problematic, and sometimes
opportunistic, circumstances.
Let us
understand the man and his environment. In an Endeavour to live well (read
comfortably) man has been alienating himself from natural surroundings. Simple
free amenities available in nature like air, water, sun, wind, rain have all
suddenly become a luxury. We spend thousands and go miles to enjoy the same
rain and water which were always there behind the windowpane. Therefore, all
designs must cater to the goal or destination that is man, where the human
aspects must envisage the social and technical problems which can be addressed
to renovate the life of man.
